AI-NET is an award-winning international research project aimed at developing next-generation communication solutions for a secure and sustainable digital transformation. Between 2021 and 2024, over 90 participants, representing seven European countries, have been working together to accelerate the development of digital communication, including powerful, energy-efficient edge computing and infrastructure solutions for 5G—and future 6G—technology.
AI-NET was awarded the prestigious CELTIC-NEXT Innovation Award at the Berlin 6G Conference in July 2024. Savantic has been part of the AI-NET PROTECT sub-project, which was focused on network performance and the protection of critical data and infrastructure.
The goal of the project has been to research high-performance services deployed and operated at the network edge, by using artificial intelligence in addition to traditional optimisation algorithms. AI-NET Protect investigated ways of monitoring internet traffic to detect anomalies and outliers.
The project developed a scalable network and node architecture with added telemetry and intent-based software-defined network management and control, providing support for AI-based automation of end-to-end services. The system created was used for monitoring internet traffic but can be used for checking other kinds of data as well.
By using machine learning algorithms to detect outliers and anomalies in internet traffic, and by employing artificial intelligence in those systems, performance can be optimised, providing proactive fault and anomaly detection and security incident management.
