Get Started with AI - Module #5 - AI today
Now we’ve gone through some of the critical components of how machine learning works, from processing data to achieving a task that can help us solve a problem or answer a question.
The technological aspects of ML is however only one part of the puzzle. Despite being a potentially powerful instrument, AI is still ‘just’ a set of tools. Its use depends on the person wielding it. So, if you find the technical aspects of AI a bit difficult, do not worry! Because a vital part of our future with AI is actually around developing our understanding of what is an appropriate way to use ML for our world.
We all have expertise to provide on what real world problems and questions we see could be helped with AI, in such a way that it creates new value for people. Such expertise is crucial for the work on making business and society’s AI transformation sustainable, and achieve good fit between humans, the human world and AI!
The theme of this fifth module is to highlight the importance of getting people more involved in the discussion concerning value creation when using AI. You will also get insight on some examples of how AI is being used today, with hopes that it inspires you to reflect further on this perspective in your own life, work, and/or business.
Reflection questions
Now we have gone through some examples of how AI can be used to help solve problems and ask questions in business, work or for use in daily life. Building on the theme of this module, we would like to encourage you to consider an example of how AI was used to solve problems or answer questions (you can choose one from the lecture or use our trusty friend - The Internet - to search for one that you find inspiring). Then explore: what was the actual problem solved and/or questions aimed to be answered, and what tasks were AI used for, to help with that?
For deeper reflection, what part of the problem, question, and/or task(s) performed by the AI, could be used in other situations?
Note that this exercise can be quite challenging, so if you find it difficult - do not worry! Perhaps your example is a bit challenging to analyze? If so, then just continue exploring more examples on the internet and see if you can find something that is easier to apply to this reflection exercise!
