​​Deepening AI ethics: AI and why we are in an environmental crisis

The ongoing socio-ecological crisis is the result of a complex web of ontological and ethical beliefs, economic and political dogmas, and the resulting human culture these have forged. AI finds itself inextricably intertwined in this web, yet this broader picture is rarely reflected in AI ethics to date. However, it is up to us to decide if this technological frontier can break free of this web and foster truly beneficial AI. 

This seminar makes the case that the full optimization of AI requires reflective engagement with a variety of social, ethical, scientific, economic, and political frontiers, making AI a key resource towards the end of the Anthropocene and the realization of an era of symbiosis between human civilization and the natural world.
